President's Corner
In the last message we talked about the changes that might be happening within the Fort Worth Chapter. Here is a little more information.
First, this coming month our meeting will feature roundtable presentations. We are scheduling 6 to 8 speakers who will have a 5 to 10 minute time limit to briefly describe a best practice within their organization. Speakers will be limited to 15 slides so as not to go over the time limit. Slides of the presentation will available after the meeting for all members on the Chapter web site. Come join, or better yet, contact Darren Alexander if you would like to present. It should be an interesting and value added session.
Next, we discussed and passed a motion changing the meeting format . Beginning shortly, we will go from a luncheon meeting each month at a specified location to two virtual meetings and one face-to-face meeting. The virtual meeting give us the flexibility to broaden our speaker selection as well as provide the message to our members who for business or other reasons cannot travel to the location. The meetings will be recorded and put on the web site for viewing when a Chapter member has the time. This method will enable us to reach more members and also to make meetings a “pull” system (members can pull the information as they wish) rather than the normal “push” (come to the scheduled time and place or miss out). Please look for the announcement and tune in to give it a try.
Chapter officers have been nominated for the 2012-2013 year and will be announced at the March meeting. Elections will be held in April in order that we may have sufficient time to turn over the operational aspects of the Chapter.
Finally, we are in the final planning stages for the Region III PDC to be held in our own back yard. We need your help and support. Register and attend one of the best programs in the country. Volunteer as a moderator. It’s getting tight but still not too late to submit a proposal to speak at the conference. We are also still accepting applications for vendor spots and have a number of sponsorship opportunities available. Check out the website at:

Hope to see you there!!
ASSE Rolls Out Body of Knowledge
ASSE's Body of Knowledge (BOK) builds upon the success of many resources, including The Safety Professionals Handbook - ASSE's major 2-volume reference set on the profession - and makes them available in a searchable, interactive database. Dozens of contributors including writers, editors, and peer reviewers are currently updating and enhancing the ASSE body of knowledge. The BOK project is ongoing, and the Society is looking forward to your contributions as an SH&E practitioner as well. Visit the BOK here: http://www.safetybok.org/.
Update Your Contact Information
Please make sure you update your contact information with the National Site (asse.org). You can log in using your member number and last name, unless you’ve changed it. Because we have new members coming in regularly, after the first of the year, I will begin using this list for distribution. If there is some reason why you do not want your e-mail updated with National or you cannot do so, please let me know to continue receiving Chapter updates and information. I am also changing my e-mail address after the first of the year (you can use now as well) to my personal account. Please send any correspondence to this address: seann17@live.com. Regards, Sean
Region III PDC (2012)
The Region Professional Development Conference next year will be held locally at the Hurst Conference Center (Hurst, TX) on August 6-8, 2012. Sponsorship is greatly needed at this point, so if your company is close to budget time (or not), consider sponsorship at any level and get your company name in lights (well, maybe in print anyway). A call for speakers will come out soon and there is a good list of technical tours on plan for the event. Obviously, this is early in the planning phase, but planning is a part of being prepared and successful, right?! Any support you can provide should be communicated with Skipper Kendrick at skipper.kendrick@gmail.com.
Safety Professional Of The Year Award
Safety Professional of the Year – nominating a member of our chapter for safety professional of the year was discussed during the last meeting. Information of “the chosen one” will be sent to Region and potentially National for selection at those levels as well. To be considered, the person must be nominated by a peer. The nomination must demonstrate what the individual has done for the chapter as well as for the profession.
