Southeastern Occupational Safety Students Score Big in National Scholarships
Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Department of Occupational Safety & Health would like to announce the following student scholarships from the Foundation of the American Society of Safety Engineers. According to Dr. Wayne D. Jones, department chair, this is the largest number of scholarships ever awarded at one time to Southeastern’s occupational safety department from the Foundation. ASSE Elections
During March, ASSE holds its elections. This process is important. In the coming years, the Society will be addressing several critical strategic issues concerning the path forward for both ASSE and the safety profession. These issues not only affect your chapter, but your livelihood. By being informed and voting, members play an important role in deciding who will lead ASSE. It’s a critical responsibility of membership. Please:
- Take the first step… Mark March 1st on your calendar
- Check out the candidates at www.asse.org/elections
- Then take the leap… Cast your vote by March 31!
Ballots will be sent via email unless a member has indicated their preference to receive a mailed ballot. Additional information about candidates along with bios, platform statements and (new this year!) recorded interviews may be found online at www.asse.org/elections.
Please contact Geri Golonka (ggolonka@asse.org) or Micah D’Orazio (mdorazio@asse.org) with any questions.
Tell your Colleagues about ASSE and Win Rewards through Member-Get-A-Member!
Who better than to share the value of an ASSE membership than you, an ASSE Chapter Leader? The 2013 ASSE Member Get a Member Campaign rewards ASSE Members for every new member who joins based on your recommendation. Members can earn rewards like ASSE Store items, free webinars & seminars, and even a free membership. Also, for every member who joins – based on your referral – you earn an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing. For more details on the program & rewards and to download recruitment tools & tips, visit www.asse.org/mgam. Tell your friend that ASSE Membership matters to you. The 2013 Member Get a Member Campaign kicks-off on January 14, 2013. Tell your friends to join using the 2013 code, 1301RAF.
Keep on the lookout for some big announcements! In January, we will announce the winners of the Chapter Challenge & the Grand Prize Winner and in February, the 2013 Member Recruitment Kits will be made available for all Chapter Leaders. ASSE Members recruited over 2,600 new members in 2012 – our best year ever! Join in the fun and make 2013 even better.
ASSE Rolls Out Body of Knowledge
ASSE's Body of Knowledge (BOK) builds upon the success of many resources, including The Safety Professionals Handbook - ASSE's major 2-volume reference set on the profession - and makes them available in a searchable, interactive database. Dozens of contributors including writers, editors, and peer reviewers are currently updating and enhancing the ASSE body of knowledge. The BOK project is ongoing, and the Society is looking forward to your contributions as an SH&E practitioner as well. Visit the BOK here: http://www.safetybok.org/.
Update Your Contact Information
Please make sure you update your contact information with the National Site (asse.org). You can log in using your member number and last name, unless you’ve changed it. Because we have new members coming in regularly, after the first of the year, I will begin using this list for distribution. If there is some reason why you do not want your e-mail updated with National or you cannot do so, please let me know to continue receiving Chapter updates and information. I am also changing my e-mail address after the first of the year (you can use now as well) to my personal account. Please send any correspondence to this address: seann17@live.com. Regards, Sean
Safety Professional Of The Year Award
Safety Professional of the Year – nominating a member of our chapter for safety professional of the year was discussed during the last meeting. Information of “the chosen one” will be sent to Region and potentially National for selection at those levels as well. To be considered, the person must be nominated by a peer. The nomination must demonstrate what the individual has done for the chapter as well as for the profession.
Click here for the SPY Award application to complete a nomination.
